Outstanding Qualities

Compared with many other epimediums ‘Red Queen’ is dramatically taller with bright apple green foliage on stalks that reach two feet tall or more. Directly below the fresh leaflets are clusters of dainty deep rose-colored flowers (not quite a true “red” as the name might imply). This enthralling cultivar forms a tidy tuft in the garden.

Culture Notes
Grows best in rich, well-drained soil in light to open shade; morning sun and afternoon shade is excellent. This cultivar will bloom fine in dappled shade. Water regularly – at least once a week – or more frequently for lush, robust plants. This cultivar has deciduous foliage which dies back in autumn and can be cut back any time after that, but be sure to cut the leafy stems to the ground before new foliage and flowers begin to emerge in springtime.
